Ann Evelin Lawford is a Dutch photographic artist, currently based in London. She has always had an urge to tell stories, and induce feelings and emotions by creating images.
The photographic series To Just Be (2017) featured on this page is collaboration between the artists Cox and Lawford, exploring prescribed gender and beauty expectations through female nudes. Embracing and challenging the female gaze, as both are each other’s subject, that of the ‘gazed-upon’, as well as the photographer, that of the ‘gazer’. For Lawford, the series is a continuation of a deeper study and confrontation with herself. It introduces a more direct, exposing and narrative expression than seen thus far in her work. Bringing disturbing psychological states to the surface by revisiting trauma, baring all that was previously submerged. A revealing and therapeutic process.
