ANGELICA WILLIS — LIVING AWAY FROM HOME

Growing up somewhere that doesn’t quite feel like home.

Tasmanian-born filmmaker and photographer Angelica Willis, now based in Melbourne, explores the loneliness and nostalgia of living far from home in this intimate 35mm series.

Created while she was moving to England and missing Australia, the project captures a lonely birthday celebration with her friend Adjoa, away from family and childhood friends.

Inspired by old family photographs, the images have a nostalgic, almost familiar quality. They capture the quiet moments of everyday life, but also the strange feeling of being somewhere new while your heart is still somewhere else.

Through these personal snapshots, Angelica explores homesickness, distance and the search for belonging, turning a moment of loneliness into something tender and deeply relatable.

A little reminder that home isn’t always a place. Sometimes, it’s the people and memories we carry with us. ♡
