EVA KAPETANI — BETWEEN BODY AND MATTER

When hair becomes more than just hair.

Greek artist Eva Kapetani explores the body and identity through something we might usually overlook, or even find unsettling: hair.

In her series of unpublished collagraph monotypes, Eva uses her own hair alongside cardboard, silicone glue, knitted fabric and shellac to create textured, almost body-like compositions. These materials come together through a process shaped by the concept of the abject, exploring the things that blur the boundaries between the body and what lies outside it.

Hair is never just hair. It can carry ideas about gender, femininity and identity, while also provoking feelings of attraction, discomfort or even disgust. By taking hair out of its usual context and incorporating it into her work, Eva invites us to reconsider our relationship with the body and the boundaries we draw around it.

Rather than simply using hair as a symbol, she plays with its material presence, allowing it to exist somewhere between the familiar and the strange, the intimate and the unsettling.

A little strange, a little feminist, and making us look twice. ♡
