Interview with Brandy Eve Allen

@brandyeveallen

Where do you come from and where are you based?
I came out of an apple and I’m based in the land of milk and honey.

Describe yourself in 3 words.
1. Confusing
2. Disarming
3. Charming

Describe your artistic process ?
I work in photography mainly, but I also paint and work with other mixed media.  You can see some stuff here www.lickmytears.com. I like to paint during the day and shoot at night during these hot summer weeks… Whenever I’m shooting, I’ll usually wake up early or process film the night of and then scan all my negatives, run around, skip and repeat.

Share 3 major influences on your work.
1. Light and Nature
2. Authenticity
3. Total alienation

What is your artistic outlook on life?
My artistic outlook is constantly changing, but one thing that always remains is the necessity to stay true to who you are, to use what’s around you to further the discovery of what exists inside you.

I think I’m more fascinated when I find the personality of the artist seducing me through their art.

Describe a real-life situation that inspired you?
When I moved to Italy at 21 years old and lived abroad for three years without knowing anyone or anything about the town I grew to love, the people, the food, the land that helped cultivate the person I am. I fell in love, broke hearts, got my heart broken, I learned a new language, I became part of a culture that was foreign to me, yet felt like home.

What makes you angry?
Feeling misunderstood.

Name 3 artists you love right now.
  1. Matt Ross (Painter)
  2. Sophie Blazey (Visual Artist)
  3. Mika Zhane (Singer)

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
My mother has always said simply to be kind and my father once said, if the car starts overheating, blast the heat on in your car until you get to a mechanic. Both have been very useful.

Paul Cezanne said «The most seductive thing about art is the personality of the artist himself. » Do you agree ? What do you think ?
It’s all relative, who and what we consider seductive, I think I’m more fascinated when I find the personality of the artist seducing me through their art.
