Welcome to the Museum of Misogyny.
French interdisciplinary artist Mélina Ghorafi has been collecting things. Books, postcards, dolls, objects, images – basically, all the little pieces of sexist culture that have somehow made their way into our collective imagination.
She calls the collection MUSOGYNIE, a kind of museum of misogyny where these objects are gathered, displayed and given a second look.
For Les femmes comme les députés font leur fortune à la chambre, Mélina places herself right in the middle of it all. Surrounded by objects, old-fashioned interiors and plenty of questionable ideas about women, she turns her own home into the exhibition space – and herself into both the viewer and the object.
The images feel playful, colourful and almost casual, which makes the underlying subject hit even harder. Because misogyny doesn’t always look dramatic. Sometimes it’s sitting on a shelf, printed on a postcard, hiding in a joke, or passed down as “just how things are.”
We love the mix of humour, absurdity and feminist rage.
A museum we definitely needed. ♡
