Bodies in all their beautiful, complicated forms.
Colombian artist Sofía Zuluaga paints bodies in all their messy, complicated, beautifully imperfect glory.
Her new series, Between Earth and the Skies, marks her return to painting after a break, and it feels like a pretty powerful comeback. Her figures twist, fold, stretch and contort, often appearing tangled together, as if caught somewhere between being held back and breaking free.
Painted in rich, saturated colours, the bodies feel soft and fleshy one second, almost abstract the next. And while there’s definitely something unsettling about them, there’s also something strangely liberating.
For Sofía, these distorted bodies speak about change, transformation, memory and all the invisible things that shape us. As if becoming yourself sometimes means completely changing shape first.
We’re very into this one. ♡
