CHARITINI KARAVASILI — A WOMAN IN PAIN

Giving a voice to the invisible aftermath of violence.

Greek artist Charitini Karavasili explores gender-based violence and its lasting imprints on women’s bodies in A Woman in Pain, an installation created for her graduation from the Athens School of Fine Arts.

Combining fragile, translucent materials with red threads and distorted forms, Charitini gives shape to the pain that often remains unseen. Rooted in personal experience, the work also opens up a space for other women to recognise and share their own stories.

For Charitini, art becomes both testimony and liberation, a way to make visible what too often remains unspoken.

Some pain is invisible. That doesn’t mean it should remain unseen. ♡

The woman and her body. A fight against society, roles, and gazes. This work’s origin is the assault and the aim is freedom. It discusses the violence against women and their bodies. Bodies that carry expectations of pleasure and reproduction, as receivers and not by choice. Bodies used as combat tools and as areas of negotiation. The work of art A WOMAN IN PAIN speaks not only from within, but also along the voices that have spoken up and the ones that did not have the strength or the time to be heard. It is a testimony, a liberation. It relates to pain. Violence. The after. The life that is restricted inside the trauma of abuse. I opt speaking for us who have the need to witness our pain wide and clear. As It is. Unapologetically.
