When the body becomes sacred.
In In the Name of Goddess, artist Gio Blonde turns to photography as a way of exploring the sacred, not as something distant or religious, but as something deeply rooted in the body, desire and human connection.
The black-and-white images move through nudity, sexuality, intimacy, friendship and vulnerability, sometimes tender, sometimes raw, sometimes a little unsettling. Bodies overlap, faces disappear, gestures become strange and familiar at the same time.
For Gio, the sacred is found in the things that are difficult to define or control: sexuality, chaos, beauty, violence, trauma and tenderness. Rather than keeping these things at a safe distance, she lets them exist together inside the images.
Photography becomes something almost ritualistic for her, a way of paying attention to encounters, feelings, memories and faces. She describes the photographic experience as a kind of authentic prayer, without belonging to any particular religion.
And we love that idea: finding something sacred in the messy, complicated reality of being human. ♡
