MAHTA: Identity, Femininity, and the Poetics of In-Betweenness

MAHTA مهتا captures a German-born woman of Iranian heritage, during her first pregnancy, exploring the intersection of ancestry, selfhood, and body. Her German-Iranian identity is portrayed not as a fracture, but as a poetic terrain where care, heritage, and resilience meet.

Through intimate stillness, her pregnancy becomes a quiet statement of agency, intercultural connection, and visibility for migrant stories, turning personal history into universal reflection on femininity and self-expression.
