Ruru Ruriko is a Japanese photographer and writer based in Tokyo and London. She studied fashion media and fine art photography in England, and discovered an interest in feminism through the work of a german feminist artist Hannah Höch. Ruru’s work is inspired by nature, feminism and vintage style. She uses photography to express her feelings and deal with her own insecurities and complexes. Her aim is to show that there is not just one beauty ideal, but a diverse range of beauty.
“My writings and photographs are both mainly about feminism, sexuality and being a girl. But my writing is more focused on what i think and my photos are about how I feel. They are similar but slightly different (i think). There are so many things and feelings I want to express but I don’t know how, so I write and take photos instead.“
