Yukari Shinomiya started photography when she was a student. Her main models are her family and friends. In 2014, she started a partnership with Shiori Kusangani. They published a zine called “AINE” with photos inspired by the old classic Showa(1926-1989) style.
“My grandmother is one of my main subjects. She has a complex of herself being old. She always complains about being too old and that she wished she was younger and able to do many things. It really reminds me of young girls who wished they were skinnier and cuter. My grandmother has the spirit of young girls. Her gray hair, lines, wrinkled skin are very attractive to me. I want to my photos to inspire people to be positive about themselves and their bodies.”
