A family, a loss, and the many ways we grieve.
Argentine photographer and filmmaker Tamia Berenice, based in Paris, explores grief and mourning in Llanto, a series shot on 35mm film.
Through a group of sisters and a granddaughter, Tamia portrays the five stages of mourning following the loss of their mother and grandmother.
The photographs capture the emotional complexity of grief within a family, where everyone experiences loss in their own way, yet shares the absence of the same person.
Shot on analogue film, the series has an intimate, almost timeless quality. The grain, the expressions and the quiet moments between the women give the images the feeling of memories being held onto, revisited and slowly understood.
A tender portrait of family, loss and the different ways we learn to live with absence. ♡
