Shot on 16mm, It’s Not For Me is an intimate portrait of Lera Dubitskaya, a 27-year-old Belarusian-Polish painter living and working in Poland.
Directed by Veronika Bolotina, the film follows Lera through her artistic practice, from her approach to painting to the reality of making a living from her work while navigating life as an immigrant artist.
Using classical oil paints to create almost intangible, dreamlike works, Lera talks about her career, her move from Minsk to Poland, artistic freedom, independence and all the uncertainty that comes with trying to build a life around your art.
The film is particularly personal for Veronika, who first met Lera at university in Minsk in 2009. More than ten years later, their shared love of art became the starting point for this intimate portrait of a friend, an artist and a woman finding her own way.
A beautiful little reminder that making art your life is rarely as simple as “just follow your passion.” ♡
