Shannon May Powell is an Australian photographer and writer currently based in Berlin. Her work focuses on sensuality, most of which is communicated through a feminine aesthetic and approach. As a woman, she feels naturally drawn to capture what she knows, which is the female.
“I am interested in exploring the erotic, not in the classic sense of the word but in a more universal sense, the erotic as a source of finding pleasure in many things, pleasure in the way the senses open to life. Eroticism has been mistaken for the pornographic. We are taught to separate the erotic from most areas of our life other than sex. We have turned away from the erotic manifested as the capacity to find joy in life, in the way ones body responds toĀ sensory experience. I want to communicate this sensory experience through my images.“
