What happens when the person who is always there for everyone else finally has nowhere to put all that care?
In Hollow Like an Easter Egg, Dutch photographer Kaatje Ziet explores the emotional labour often placed on women ; the caring, the nurturing, the listening, the endless making-everything-feel-okay.
Set somewhere between a fairytale and a fever dream, the series follows a woman dressed in white, wandering through forests, surrounded by strange blue objects and surreal little details.
There’s something soft and beautiful about the images, but also something slightly unsettling. Because being the one who holds everything together can get pretty exhausting.
With its dreamy imagery and playful symbolism, Hollow Like an Easter Egg asks what happens when we give so much of ourselves to others that we slowly lose sight of ourselves.
Beautiful, strange, and just a little bit haunting. We’re into it. ♡
