Moonchild Sanelly is a Johannesburg-based artist and musical sensation. She creates a very distinct sound, ghetto funk, fusing experimental electronic, afro-punk, edgy-pop with her strong kwaito, hip hop and jazz background. She sings in “Xhonglish”, a mix of Xhosa and English. The singer-rapper, who started performing at very early age, has already shared the stage with artists such as Madala Kunene, Gcina Hlope and Busi Mhlongo, and collaborated with bands like BLK JKS and Thandiswa Mazwai.
With her signature blue hair, her fearless energy and upbeat music, she is really standing out from the crowd. She is bold, sexy and pulls no punches to tackle issues of female empowerment with her music. Calling herself an “advocate for female orgasm“, she wants to raise awareness while making people dance. Her mission: sexual liberation.

“Women get treated like objects in South Africa. It’s hard to get taken seriously in the music industry… I am all about woman empowerment, be it in the office, the bedroom or in the home.” – Moonchild Sanelly
